WHEN YOU RECEIVE YOUR PUPPY
When you receive your new puppy you will have one (1) week to take this puppy to a licensed veterinarian of your choice and a new health exam done to assure the puppy is in good health.
If you are unable to take your pet to the veterinarian within one week you must notify Chickaree Mountain Danes immediately with the date the puppy is scheduled to be seen.
If you do not take your new puppy to the vet within one week, or notify Chickaree Mountain Danes of a scheduled date, after leaving my home this health guarantee will be voided.
A new health exam is to assure you have been given a healthy puppy from the start.
When your new puppy has been evaluated by your licensed veterinarian and is found to have a life threatening illness or congenital defect, the breeder must be notified within 3 days of the evaluation and the breeder must receive a full copy of the evaluation including diagnosis. This information must be sent by the veterinarian’s office. Please contact Chickaree Mountain Danes for the correct email or home address to receive this report.
This breeder will not accept documents from the puppy owner unless all identifying veterinarian information is included and on letterhead. This breed must be given permission to contact the veterinarian's office to discuss details of this report.
If a veterinarian determines a life threatening illness or congenital defect the puppy must be returned at the buyer's expense and a replacement puppy will be given as soon as one becomes available. Shipment of the replacement puppy is at the buyers expense.
If you choose to keep the puppy, Chickaree Mountains will no longer cover this issue, but will cover any additional genetic issues that could possibly be found from future veterinarian exams.
If the puppy dies within the 2 year time frame the buyer will need to have a necropsy performed to decipher the genetic defect. When the necropsy is performed by a qualified licensed veterinarian and findings 100% indicate a congenital/genetic defect the puppy will be replaced with a new puppy as soon as possible. A full copy of the necropsy report will be required in order to receive a replacement.
Chickaree Mountain Danes will work with the buyer regarding changing parents, or color and sex of the new puppy. However if the new puppy’s price is different than the previous puppy, the buyer will be responsible for any additional costs associated with these changes. Our goal is to make this unfortunate event as easy as possible for the buyer.
Once the puppy has visited the vet for his/her exam, additional shots and wellness exams will be needed in order for this contract not to become null/voided.
Please see the puppy shot schedule that is included in your new puppy packet when you pick up your pet. It is important to read all information inside the packet and hopefully help with many questions you might have in the future.
If your new puppy does not receive his vaccinations in a timely manner this contract will become void. Routine vet care is mandatory, no exceptions.
WHAT’S INCLUDED:
-
This 2 year guarantee includes severe hip dysplasia which can greatly affect the life of the dog. However, mild and moderate hip dysplasia does not severely affect the life of the dog and with proper medication, diet, exercise, joint support, and veterinarian care the dog can live a full happy life.
Hip issues must be submitted by Penn Hip, I will not accept OFA hip results and I will need the demographic information on the reporting Penn Hip veterinarian.
If you purchased this pet for breeding purposes and deemed not breed able due to hips, I do not cover this issue. I do not guarantee this dog to be breed able.
My dogs are one set price and I do not charge a different price for pet versus breeding rights. The only way to determine if the dog is breed able is by health testing. My dogs in my program are health tested, it is your responsibility to inquire which testing has been performed on each parent prior to deciding to place the deposit.
Please keep in mind that genetics do play a part in hip scores, however environmental factors, diet, too much exercise, lack of exercise, laying on one side for long periods of time in a crate can all contribute to hip issues as well.
-
Chickaree Mountain Danes deworms all their puppies with many different forms of dewormer at different stages of their life, however when you receive your new puppy and a fecal exam indicates a positive result, Chickaree Mountain Danes will pay for the MEDICATION to treat the worm. We will require a copy of the report and the invoiced amount to treat. Please reach out to me if this happens.
-
All dogs are AKC registerable and will be included in your puppy packet. If paperwork is late, I will disclose this information prior to pick up to avoid any confusion and I will mail you the AKC documents as soon as they arrive at my home.
-
ALL Chickaree Mountain Danes must include either CMD or the full kennel name, Chickaree Mountain Danes, to be listed on the official AKC registered name, Example: CMD and then new puppies name and your kennel name, or any variant of this example. Chickaree Mountain Danes reserves the right to change FULL rights to LIMITED rights if you do not include this information and decide to use this dog in your future breeding program. This ensures that Chickaree Mountain Danes don’t purchase offspring that could potentially conflict with other pedigrees in their program.
-
Under certain circumstances, Chickaree Mountain Danes reserves the rights to simply refund the deposit amount you have placed on your puppy. An example might be if Chickaree Mountain Danes accepted the deposit under false pretense such as being dishonest, or Chickaree Mountain Danes found out later it would not be a good fit, or if Chickaree Mountain Danes suspected animal abuse in current or previously owned animals. I will refund the deposit and you will no longer be given the opportunity to purchase the puppy you placed the deposit on.
-
As mentioned above when a necropsy is performed and replacement puppy is warranted my goal is to work with the buyer. Depending on each individual circumstance, Chickaree Mountain Danes will be willing to offer a partial refund, full refund, or other options that might better suit the buyer’s needs. Once again my goal is to work with the buyer, not against them.
WHAT’S EXCLUDED:
-
EYE ISSUES- Some European danes have naturally droopy eyes. Entropion, a condition in which the eyelid rolls inwards causing the eyelashes to rub against the dogs cornea, or cherry eye, a prolapsed gland of the third eyelid is not covered under this contract.
-
SPRAY/NEUTER If you plan to spray/neuter your puppy please understand that your great dane grows until the age of 18 months to two years of age. Under this guarantee you MAY NOT spray/neuter prior to 18 months. If you or your veterinarian proceed to alter the dog prior to this age this guarantee will become void and Chickaree Mountain Danes will not cover any genetic defects from the date of alter.
-
UNDESCENDED TESTICLES OR INQUINAL/UMBILLICAL HERNIAS are not covered under this guarantee, but will be disclosed as soon as breeder is notified by veterinarian during health evaluation. You will be given the option at this time to have your deposit refunded, or continue with purchasing the puppy. CMD will not be responsible for any changes incurred due to surgery on undescended testicles or hernias.
-
OVERBITE/UNDERBITE/ TEETH ALIGNMENT/UNEVEN BITES- CMD will check each puppy for correct placement of teeth. However, as a puppy grows they can develop an overbite or underbite. CMD also has a veterinarian perform a quick check of the palate and position of the teeth. CMD does not always continue to monitor the progress of teeth growth. If your intentions are to show/breed this puppy, please ask CMD to check teeth to ensure proper growth. If CMD’s Veterinarian notices teeth issues during the health exam this information will be disclosed on the health certificate and you will be notified of this flaw immediately. It is the buyer's responsibility to ask for updates on teeth if you are concerned about any abnormalities. Unfortunately, sometimes tooth complications can be missed during an exam or as they are growing, it is best to ask prior to picking the puppy up. Once the puppy is placed with you, CMD will not cover teeth concerns. If a tooth concern is found prior to taking possession of the puppy, you will be given the option to move the deposit to a different litter, or continue with the purchase of the current puppy you picked out. CMD will not return deposits due to uneven bites of any form.
-
TORSION OF THE STOMACH/BLOAT- Gastric dilatation-volvulus is a serious condition and is fatal if left untreated. IMMEDIATE CARE IS REQUIRED!!!! Bloat occurs when a dog’s stomach fills with gas, food, or fluid and twists. Great danes have free floating stomachs and bloat can happen very quickly with no onset symptoms. Surgery is almost ALWAYS required to fix the twisted stomach and time is of the utmost importance. If you expect bloat, visit the ER immediately.
I HIGHLY SUGGEST having your veterinarian perform Gastropexy surgery to tack the stomach and reduce the chance of bloat. Large breed deep chested dogs, anxiety, stress, and nutrition are just a few reasons why your dog can bloat. Please familiarize yourself with the signs and symptoms of Bloat, your quick actions could save your babies life.
-
TEMPERAMENT: I can take all the care in the world to choose dogs for a breeding program that have a sound mind and excellent temperaments, but ultimately it is up to the new owner to socialize your new puppy. Not for a short amount of time while they are puppies and visiting the vet for their shots, but long term, continue to introduce your dog to strangers, other pets, and different environments so they become comfortable in all settings. When the puppies leave my house at 8 weeks, they have very happy temperaments, show no signs of aggressive tendencies, and are of sound mind. It is your responsibility to continue to teach and mold their behaviors into what you expect of them. If you are purchasing a puppy for a breeding program and live in a multi pet home please keep in mind that sometimes all animals, just like people, do not get along. This is the environment that you placed them in and expected them to adapt to their surroundings. CMD would never breed a dog that has shown any signs of aggression or temper issues. The majority of temperament issues come from the environment they are placed in. CMD will not accept any puppy or adult back due to aggression issues, and will work with the owner to find proper placement. CMD will not put any of their stock in danger by bringing in an adult that lacks proper social skills.
-
INFERTILITY: I can not guarantee your dog will be fertile, that is in God's hands. If you purchase a puppy with the expectations of breeding, I do not guarantee the dog will be able to reproduce. As I mentioned before I do not charge extra for full rights.
-
FLEA/ TICK MEDS OR HEARTWORM MEDICATION is not covered under this guarantee
-
EAR MITES/INFECTIONS are not covered under this guarantee.
-
SARCOPTIC MANGE/SKIN PROBLEMS/ ALLERGIES are not covered under this guarantee.
-
PARASITES TREATMENTS monthly treatments are not covered under this guarantee.
-
KENNEL COUGH is not covered under this guarantee. This is common when puppies travel from one environment to another and are exposed to bacteria. Kennel cough is self limited and like the common cold. Please take note kennel cough can turn into pneumonia and that is life threatening and is contagious so talk with your veterinarian if you see cough or cold symptoms.
This guarantee is non transferable to future owners of this dog. If you are unable to care for your puppy and needs to be returned for any reason I must be notified. A return contract is in place which means that the dog needs to be returned to the breeder. If you are unable to keep the puppy, reach out to me and we can discuss all options that might be available. You may not sell, transfer, surrender to an animal shelter, or give away this puppy for any reason, at any time, without contacting me first. We can work together to find a better solution.
If you are considering returning the pet or breeder to CMD, your first step is notifying CMD in advance that you have concerns regarding the dog. Please do not call me one day and say you are bringing the adult to my house. It does not work this way. I am the breeder and have the responsibility to take the puppy back, however you have the responsibility to notify me of concerns, and the responsibility to help place this pet. CMD will assist YOU in placing the pet in a new home. CMD will reach out to other potential buyers that might be looking for an adult or older puppy. CMD will help you advertise for a new home by social media or listing on my website. Placing a pet will be a team effort. Please keep in mind, you know this dog much better than I do at this point and it's your responsibility to talk to new potential owners.
CMD is willing to work with you in finding a new home, or if you have friends or family willing to take the pet in. CMD will consider other breeding homes if and only if we both approve the home. If this pet is not suitable for you, the last thing CMD wants to see is this pet be shuffled from breeder to breeder. If you find a new home CMD must know the name, address, and telephone number of the new owner. CMD has no issues working with the new owner. If we are unable to place this pet in a reasonable amount of time, then CMD will take the dog back. CMD will require all AKC documents signed and transferred over to CMD before accepting the dog. This includes AKC registration and any identifying information, such as microchip. CMD will help find you transportation or be willing to meet within a reasonable distance.
Under no circumstances will Chickaree Mountain Danes buy a puppy back from you. If you are unable to keep the puppy and he/she needs to be surrendered back to CMD, due to any reason, at any point in time, I will not pay for this puppy's return or purchase this puppy off of you. You are surrendering this puppy for reasons beyond my control. All sales are final.
Again, all transportation expenses will be covered by the current owner and at no time will CMD ever be responsible for this expense, even when the puppy is being surrendered.
